Frequently Asked Questions
The device has “MIN” and “MAX” markings.
Make sure to empty the device on time so that the level does not exceed the “MAX” mark.
This ensures a long lifespan for your composter!
When emptying the device, be careful to maintain a minimum compost level in the device. Leave enough substrate (to reach the “MIN” mark) so that microorganisms can continue to decompose and multiply normally. Never remove all compost from the device.
Before applying the substrate to your plants, let Reencle run for 48 hours without adding food scraps so that everything is properly processed before emptying. After that, remove the substrate and mix it with soil in a 4 (soil) : 1 (substrate) ratio, then let it sit in a ventilated container for three weeks before feeding your plants. The compost will be ready when it resembles humus and has an earthy smell. Your plants will thank you!
Food piece size: Cut large pieces of food into smaller ones, and always shred fibrous food to speed up decomposition.
Cleaning: Rinse and dry food scraps before placing them in the device (especially when dealing with residues like salad containing a large amount of vinegar and oil).
Variety: Add smaller amounts of food several times rather than a large amount once a day.
Liquid quantity: If you notice the substrate is dry, add 500-900 ml of water (Reencle might indicate the substrate is dry by making unusual noises).
To start the device, you need a standard single-phase power outlet. Add microorganisms (included with the device) and water (1.5–1.8L) to the device. The activation period for microorganisms is 24 hours, after which you can start adding food waste.
Processing time is approximately 24 hours, depending on the type of waste added. The device operates continuously, and you can add food scraps as needed throughout the day – opening the device lid will not interrupt the decomposition cycle.
If you plan to be away from home for more than 7 days, stop adding food to Reencle two days before leaving, so that previously added food is completely decomposed. On the day of departure, turn off the device and unplug the power cord. If you are away from home for less than 7 days, use Reencle as usual. Upon your return, check that the substrate is not dry. If it is necessary to reactivate the microorganisms, add 500 ml of water and leave for 4-6 hours before resuming use.
Reencle can decompose food that humans and animals can digest!
This means EVERYTHING like fruits, vegetables, cooked and roasted meat, fish, pasta, grains, cakes, crackers, bread, and cooked eggs. Fibrous food scraps can slow down decomposition, so it is recommended to cut them into smaller pieces before placing them in the device.
Reencle loves coffee grounds and eggshells, and they also make excellent soil amendments.
Practical Tips
Periodic vibration-like sounds may occur if the substrate inside the device is too dry. It is necessary to add water or watery fruits and vegetables (watermelon, cucumber, etc.) for the device to continue operating silently.
No. The ReencleMicrobe™ mixture of microorganisms will temporarily enter a spore state (dormant state) if food intake stops and will not die; they will reactivate when scraps are added. If you notice their condition deteriorating, i.e., they are no longer adequately decomposing food, contact us for further instructions.
If you smell yeast from the device, it is best to add citrus fruits (e.g., grapefruit, orange, lemon) to neutralize the smell. In case of a sour, unpleasant smell, do not add acidic food (fruit peels, fruit pulp, etc.) for a while. Using the drying option during the day and adding ground coffee along with food scraps helps neutralize unpleasant odors. If you have been using the device for more than a year, the filter may need to be replaced.
The Reencle device will not automatically turn on when power is restored. Therefore, check if the “Power” button is lit green.
Don’t worry, Reencle microorganisms are probiotics, so there’s no fear for your pet’s health, but it’s recommended to avoid it.
Since the mixer in the device rotates close to its center, the substrate can accumulate and settle in the corners and on the walls of the device. Scrape the substrate with a spatula and mix it with the mixture before adding food for optimal results.
No. Frozen food must be thawed before placing it in Reencle. Frozen food causes a change in optimal temperature, and microorganisms enter a spore state (dormant state), which stops adequate decomposition within the device. Also, the rigidity of frozen food can cause damage to the inside of the device.
Yes. The internal temperature of the product is set to maintain 50°C to 60°C, which is suitable for maintaining and multiplying microorganisms. During device installation (initial water addition) and during further device operation, condensation may occur on the lid and internal walls due to the difference between internal and external temperatures. Condensation is a natural phenomenon and does not pose a problem.
Yes. Mold can sometimes be found on the substrate, internal side walls, and mixer. Mix the mold with the substrate using the spatula provided with the device, and it will decompose within a few hours.
about the Reencle Composter
Reencle is the first eco-friendly food waste composter. Reencle uses aerobic biological decomposition with the help of specialized microorganisms (ReencleMicrobe™) that decompose food waste into real compost under controlled conditions – quickly, quietly, and without unpleasant odors.
Unlike other solutions:
- Dehydration devices use high temperatures to dry out waste. They do not produce true compost, but rather dry material that is often unsuitable for soil.
- Kitchen waste grinders grind food scraps and send them down the drain into the sewage system, which burdens the wastewater system and does not utilize valuable nutrients.
- Traditional outdoor composting requires more space, time, and physical labor (e.g., turning compost), and is often accompanied by unpleasant odors and attracts insects.
Reencle allows continuous waste addition, decomposition within 2 to 24 hours, minimal maintenance, and compost that is immediately ready for use. All of this in your kitchen, without noise and without unpleasant odors.
Thanks to the combination of microbiology, technological precision, and practical use, Reencle is a unique solution for sustainable, clean, and efficient home composting.
Hanmi Flexible is a home appliance manufacturer founded in 1988 in South Korea. With over 30 years of experience, Hanmi assembles electronic parts for vacuum cleaners and washing machines for LG, Hitachi, Panasonic, Hyundai, and Hurom. Hanmi is ISO 9001 certified.
Since the 1990s, South Korea has made exceptional progress in food waste recycling. While in 1996 it recycled only 2.6% of food waste, today it recycles almost 100% thanks to mandatory bio-waste separation, smart composting systems, and a pay-as-you-throw system. We want to follow the positive example set by South Korea and contribute to the transformation of waste management systems.
Besides saving time and reducing your household chores, Reencle effectively filters odors to keep your living space fresh at all times. Maintenance costs are low, even when the device runs 24 hours a day. Also, once food waste is converted into compost, you can use it in your garden. The best choice for environmentally conscious consumers who want to make their home clean and fragrant. Composting in your own home has never been easier!

Reencle uses specialized thermophilic bacteria from the genus Bacillus (as part of the patented ReencleMicrobe™ mixture), which have the ability to self-renew and survive in demanding conditions, including high temperatures, acidity, and changes in organic matter quantity. Thanks to their resilience, they remain active long-term and do not require regular replenishment.
To maintain their stability and effectiveness, it is important not to remove too much substrate when emptying the device. The substrate should always remain above the minimum level marked in the device. This way, microorganisms remain in sufficient numbers to continue the decomposition process without interruption.
With proper use and maintenance, the microorganisms in the device remain active long-term without additional costs.
Safety and Maintenance
Do not clean/rinse Reencle with water. Use a damp cloth to clean the inner walls. The mesh filter should be cleaned frequently with a brush (when particles accumulate on it), and it can also be detached and washed with water.
The carbon filter should be replaced with a new one when an odor starts to be felt in the area (approximately once a year).
Yes. Always turn off the power before servicing or cleaning inside the chamber to prevent electric shock injuries.
No. Frozen food must be thawed before placing it in Reencle. Frozen food causes a change in optimal temperature, and microorganisms enter a spore state (dormant state), which stops adequate decomposition within the device. Also, the rigidity of frozen food can cause damage to the inside of the device.
With proper maintenance according to instructions, the filter lasts approximately one year. If you have used both filters, you can order new ones through our webshop.
